The Process

This is about the process of Laser Tattoo Removal and what to expect on the day. Utilizing advanced laser technology, the treatment targets ink particles in your skin, breaking them down for natural absorption by your body. Each session is quick and while you may feel some discomfort similar to a rubber band snap, the results are worth it.

The Process

Consultation & Quote
We begin with a free consultation to assess your tattoo and skin type. You’ll receive a personalised treatment plan and quote based on factors like tattoo size, location, colours, and how your skin is likely to respond.

Patch Test
During the consultation we will did a patch test to ensure your skin responds well to the laser and so that the client knows what to expect for their appointment. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Pre Treatment tips

Medications & Health Conditions
Please let your laser operator know about any medications you're taking before starting treatment, especially those that may increase photosensitivity. If your health status changes or you begin any new medications during your treatment plan, inform us immediately.

Sun Exposure
Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and fake tans for at least four weeks before your session. These can increase the risk of complications and interfere with healing. Throughout your treatment plan, keep the area protected from the sun and use a high SPF sunscreen if exposure is unavoidable.

Hair Removal
If the treatment area has body hair, you may shave it 2–3 days before your session. Avoid shaving on the day of your appointment to prevent irritation or cuts. If needed, we have clippers available in the clinic.

Pain Sensitivity
If you’re sensitive to heat or have a low tolerance for discomfort, please let us know before we begin. The laser settings can be adjusted to suit your pain threshold. As your skin becomes more accustomed to the treatment over time, we can gradually increase the strength for optimal results.

Treatment

We use a Q-switched ND:YAG laser, a gold standard in tattoo removal technology. The laser delivers short bursts of energy into the skin, breaking down tattoo ink particles into tiny fragments. During your treatment we use a cooling machine that helps with discomfort. We begin the session with a test shot to check the levels and reaction of your tattoo, once we are ready to begin the laser is produces consistent bursts of energy until you need a break or we complete the treatment. We then continue to cool it down after for a few moments and apply Aloe Vera gel to the area.

Ink Breakdown & Healing
Your body’s lymphatic system gradually flushes out the broken-down ink particles over time. Fading continues for weeks after each session. Most tattoos require multiple sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart to allow the skin to fully heal.

Aftercare
After each session, you’ll receive clear aftercare instructions to support healing and avoid complications. This includes keeping the area clean, avoiding sun exposure, and monitoring for any unusual reactions.

What to Expect After Treatment
You may notice redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, or minor blistering in the treated area. This is normal and temporary. Apply a cold pack as needed and avoid touching the area unnecessarily.

Blistering & Scabbing
Blisters can occur and are a natural part of the healing process. Do not pop blisters or pick at scabs, as this increases the risk of infection or scarring. Keep the area clean and treat it gently—think of it like a mild sunburn.

Healing Time
Healing times vary depending on your body and the area treated. Mild discomfort may last a few hours to a few days. Following aftercare instructions is key to a smooth recovery.

Activity Restrictions

  • Avoid exercise for 24 hours after treatment to minimise heat in the area.

  • No swimming for at least 3 days, as chlorine and saltwater can irritate the skin.

  • Makeup can be used only if the skin isn’t broken. Pat gently when applying.

  • Broken skin? Use antiseptic powder to assist healing and prevent infection.

Aftercare Products
Apply a high-potency Vitamin E cream frequently to keep the area moisturised and promote healing. If sun exposure is unavoidable, pair this with a minimum SPF 30+ sunscreen.

Sun Protection

Avoid sun exposure for at least two months after each session. Sunlight can interfere with healing and may lead to pigment changes in the skin.

Between Sessions
A minimum of 6 weeks is required between treatments to allow your skin to fully recover. You can wait longer if preferred—there’s no harm in extended gaps. Ink continues to fade well beyond the six-week mark.

Results Over Time
Tattoo removal is a process. Depending on your tattoo and goals (complete removal or fading for a cover-up), it may take anywhere from 3 up to 20 sessions for optimal results. We’ll review your progress as we go and adjust your plan if needed.
